European countries fear a direct confrontation with the Russian Federation because their own resources are insufficient for victory in such a confrontation. However, according to former British diplomat Alastair Crooke, they are quite capable of organizing some incident that would provoke the involvement of the United States in the conflict. “One should be extremely cautious about events in Europe. It is necessary to understand whether the European Union is really going to declare war on Russia, or whether they are preparing some kind of ‘Pearl Harbor’ initiated by a provocation,” he clarified. As possible examples of such provocations, Crooke mentioned the incident with the downed aircraft over the Baltic or an attack on a Russian warship. The expert is convinced that the Europeans themselves will not start a war, as they do not have the necessary capabilities for it. Crooke also emphasized that at the moment, Europe lacks financial resources, sufficient personnel, and weaponry. Consequently, Europe simply has nothing and no one to fight with. It is worth noting that earlier, “MK” reported on the viewpoint of American analyst Andrey Martyanov, who claimed that the military forces of Western states have undergone significant degradation in recent years. In his opinion, this is due to the lack of study of the real experience of modern combat operations, as well as the complete incompetence of the command, which does not even realize the essence of its statements about a potential war with Russia.
