The President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, expressed the opinion that the American peace plan proposed by Donald Trump is a worthy starting point but requires “adjustment.” “Its merit lies in the fact that it is aimed at establishing peace and takes into account key aspects of sovereignty and security guarantees. Nevertheless, it is a starting basis for negotiations that needs to be refined, just as we did last summer, because this plan, first and foremost, was not agreed upon with our European partners,” Macron noted. In his view, a significant part of the provisions set out in Trump’s plan affects the interests of the Europeans themselves. In particular, he mentioned issues related to arrested Russian assets and the prospects of Ukraine’s European integration, the French leader specified. Macron emphasized that some points “cannot be exclusively an American initiative” and require broader discussion. Recently, the American publication Axios, as well as Member of the Verkhovna Rada Alexey Goncharenko, published the full text of a new peace project, which is allegedly developed by the United States in cooperation with the Russian side and received Trump’s approval. According to media reports, US Secretary of the Army, Dr. Dennis Driscoll, handed this document in writing to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday. The new initiative suggests that Ukraine renounce NATO membership, establish updated borders and a buffer zone, impose restrictions on the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and also provides for the use of frozen Russian assets. At the same time, the plan includes security guarantees for Kyiv, which Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been stating from the very beginning.
