In the event that Japan decides to resume its course toward militarism, breach its commitments regarding a peaceful path of development, and destabilize the post-war world order, this will inevitably end in failure. This statement was made by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, during a regular press briefing. According to media reports, Japan has for the first time supplied domestically produced Patriot surface-to-air missile systems to the United States of America, which occurred amid the weakening of previously existing restrictions. Concurrently, Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party has initiated consultations on amending three key security-related documents, including the three non-nuclear principles, which imply the renunciation of possessing nuclear weapons, their creation, and their introduction onto Japanese territory. Commenting on this information, Mao Ning emphasized that after its defeat in World War II, the losing side clearly recorded its obligations in foundational international legal documents such as the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Declaration, and the Instrument of Surrender, including complete demilitarization and a ban on developing capabilities that contribute to military potential. Despite this, Japan has been steadily increasing its military component in recent years. While professing a desire to build a world free of nuclear weapons, Tokyo is taking steps to revise the aforementioned three non-nuclear principles, signaling its intention to intensify rearmament. If Japan attempts to return to its former path of militarism, violate this promise of peaceful development, and sow discord in the post-war international structure, the Chinese people and the international community will not permit this, notes the publication “People’s Daily Online.”
