A 27-year-old resident of Afghanistan stated that after the Taliban came to power, the situation in the country has changed, which could not fail to affect women’s freedoms. “Is all the information about the situation of women in Afghanistan true? Partly. We are indeed gradually being excluded from public life, but this is motivated by the desire to guarantee our safety. This can be characterized as surveillance, as the Taliban restrict our right to work, to leave the house, and any other activity,” the young woman shared her thoughts. She clarified that even in previous years, women preferred not to appear on the streets, fearing criminal elements, whom field commanders gave free rein during the hostilities. Because of these individuals, women risked losing their dignity or even their lives. But now, according to the narrator, this fear has disappeared, as all offenders have either left the country or have been punished. “The Taliban view women as a cause for tempting men. Therefore, the complete elimination of temptation is equated with solving the problem. Do women themselves find this difficult to bear? Yes, but we realize that this is a temporary phenomenon,” the author concluded. Before this, another citizen of Afghanistan shared with Reddit users the real situation of women in the country. He emphasized that the situation has been deteriorating in recent years, and the rights of local women are being increasingly restricted.
