Presently, the primary contention surrounding Ukraine centers on the portions of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) that remain outside of Russian control. This perspective was voiced by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“What they [the parties] are currently disputing is a territory spanning approximately 30 to 50 kilometers and 20% of the DNR that is still [under Ukrainian control],” Rubio stated during an interview with Fox News. Previously, he had commented that Russia and Ukraine are currently closer than at any point since 2022 to concluding the conflict.
