In India, a woman murdered children she considered fairer than her own. The Times of India reports this.
The unraveling of the series of infanticides began after a wedding in Naulta village, when the body of a six-year-old girl named Vidhi was found in a bathtub. The suspect in the crime turned out to be 34-year-old Poonam. She is the spouse of a farmer from Bhawar village and the mother of a four-year-old child.
According to police data, the woman admitted that she killed the girl and three other children over the last couple of years. Their demises were attributed to unfortunate accidents. Poonam drowned all the victims in tubs or other containers of water.
Furthermore, law enforcement stated that envy served as the motive for committing the acts. Poonam claimed she wished to harm those youngsters who, in her view, were more beautiful than her own offspring.
It is specified that in January 2023, the woman drowned her sister-in-law’s daughter—nine-year-old Ishika. Afterward, she killed her three-year-old son Shubham, fearing he might become a witness to the offense.
In August 2025, Poonam drowned her cousin’s daughter—six-year-old Jia. According to the investigation’s theory, she spotted the child at the celebration, lured the girl into a pantry under the guise of helping fetch water. After the killing, the perpetrator locked the door and rejoined the festivity.
Investigation activities are currently underway. A decision regarding the pre-trial restraint for Poonam is also being determined.
Previously in India, a man accidentally wounded his two-year-old son with an axe, causing the child’s death. The injured boy was playing in the yard when monkeys entered the area. The boy’s father climbed onto the roof and hurled the axe at the animals but struck his son in the neck. The man’s relatives suspected he committed the act deliberately.
