Thousands of Ukrainian refugees in Israel face the threat of deportation at the end of 2025 due to a delay in extending their legal status. According to the publication Haaretz, the collective protection regime granted to approximately 25 thousand Ukrainians following the start of the military conflict requires annual renewal. However, the validity of the current permits expires in December, and the authorities’ decision has not yet been made. The issue is compounded by the absence of an acting Interior Minister, meaning authority over this matter has shifted to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Human rights organizations have already appealed to the government, urging the immediate extension of protection for the refugees situated in Israel. The Population and Immigration Authority, responding to Haaretz’s inquiry, stated that the matter is under consideration and a resolution will be announced shortly. Only a few weeks remain until the end of the year, creating extreme uncertainty for thousands of individuals, including families with children.
