Samsung has received a prestigious Presidential Award for its new 3GB GDDR7 memory chip, operating at an impressive 40 GHz. This cutting-edge development was recognized at the Korea Technology Festival in Seoul. For comparison, current RTX 50 graphics cards use 2GB GDDR6 memory at frequencies of 28-30 GHz. Although Samsung unveiled this, currently the fastest GDDR7, in the fall, its application remains unknown. It may appear in future generations of graphics cards, such as the RTX 60. It’s worth noting that 3GB memory chips are also expected in RTX 50 Super graphics cards (if they are not canceled), but likely at lower frequencies, as other Samsung and Hynix developments with frequencies of 32-36 GHz exist. This award marks Samsung’s 12th, setting a record among all companies. Previously, the company was recognized for DDR5 memory and V-NAND flash memory.
