The Telegram messenger integrated the Passkey passwordless authentication feature for users of iOS and Android operating systems. This novel option appeared in the application’s settings under the “Privacy” section.
To enable the feature, one must generate an access key and verify identity using biometrics (Face ID, Touch ID) or a passcode.
The entry key is stored on the device and permits logging into the account without extra confirmations via SMS codes and passwords.
The implementation of Passkey is part of a worldwide trend toward abandoning vulnerable passwords and one-time codes, which are susceptible to phishing and interception. Previously, Google, Apple, Microsoft, and VK introduced similar technology. It is anticipated that the function will become reachable for all messenger users in one of the forthcoming updates.
