A record for a new Xiaomi device with the model number 2608BPX34C was found in the database of the international mobile operators association GSMA, which sparked rumors about the possible appearance of the company’s first foldable smartphone with a three-segment body. This is reported by the publication GizmoChina.
The model identifier does not reveal the commercial name of the device, so the exact format of its assembly remains unclear. According to Chinese experts and the source Digital Chat Station, information about the development of a “trifold” is inaccurate. The insider called such reports online misleading, stating that currently, there is no active project for such a device at Xiaomi.
However, prior patent filings from the company featured details about a device of a similar form factor. At least one patented design describes a Z-shaped structure with a horizontal camera array, which, when unfolded, is comparable in size to a tablet. Nevertheless, these documents likely reflect exploratory work rather than a product ready for launch.
Xiaomi did not unveil the much-anticipated Mix Fold 5 flip phone this year. Based on current information, the release of such a gadget is slated for 2026. Consequently, the new model 2608BPX34C could be either a conventional book-style flagship or a device of a new type, GizmoChina suggests.
