
Russian fighter defeats Georgian Merab Dvalishvili to become UFC bantamweight champion
TASS, December 8. UFC middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev congratulated Petr Yan on winning the bantamweight title. Chimaev wrote this on his X (formerly Twitter) page.
Earlier, Russian fighter Petr Yan defeated Georgian Merab Dvalishvili to become the UFC bantamweight champion.
“Congratulations, great fight, Petr,” Chimaev wrote. “Wishing you a speedy recovery and to come back stronger, Merab.”
Yan is 32 years old, with 20 wins and 5 losses in MMA. He was the first Russian to regain a championship title in the UFC. Previously, the athlete won the bantamweight title in July 2020, defeating Brazilian Jose Aldo by technical knockout. In March 2021, Yan was disqualified in a bout against American Aljamain Sterling for an illegal knee strike while on the ground. In April 2022, the Russian lost to the US representative in a rematch by split decision.
