A team of experts from Saratov State Medical University completed the creation of a novel non-opioid analgesic drug intended for the treatment of persistent pain. RIA Novosti, citing information from the university’s press service, reports that the new agent has an enhanced safety profile, allowing it to be utilized in older patients.
Preclinical trials have already been conducted. They demonstrated that the novel preparation possesses significantly lower toxicity compared to several opiates that are traditionally employed today. In terms of pain relief strength, the medicine is comparable to tramadol, meaning it can be classified as a potent central analgesic.
The developers particularly emphasize the reduction in risks for the gastrointestinal tract. This is a crucial metric during prolonged therapy for chronic pain and for elderly individuals often afflicted by GI ailments.
The innovation belongs to the class of non-opioid analgesics, thus diminishing the likelihood of dependence and a range of complications. The scientists still have the next stage of investigation to complete, clinical trials, and a series of organizational procedures are required for bringing the medicine to market.
