Moderate geomagnetic storms have begun on Earth due to a plasma ejection from the Sun. This was reported by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Scientists noted that this was the result of the only X1.1 level X-ray flare in December, which occurred on the 8th around 8:00 Moscow time. “At the moment, a vigorous reaction of the magnetosphere is observed. A bright auroral oval has formed, as is almost always the case with such impulsive events,” the Laboratory’s Telegram channel notes. It is further specified that the main part of the auroras has shifted towards Scandinavia and Canada. “In geomagnetic terms, moderate disturbances are currently being recorded,” the statement says. According to scientists’ estimates, the scale of the geomagnetic storm will become clear on the morning of December 11.
