The President of Hockey Operations for the Vancouver Canucks, Jim Rutherford, issued an official statement regarding the trade of team captain Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild.
He conveyed heartfelt appreciation to Hughes for his years with the club, labeling him an exceptional individual, an elite hockey player, and one of the best athletes in Canucks history. Concurrently, Rutherford stressed that this transaction allowed Vancouver to acquire a group of promising young prospects from Minnesota who will constitute a vital component of the current roster restructuring.
According to him, the team intends to establish a solid groundwork for sustained achievement and rejoin the ranks of genuine Stanley Cup contenders as swiftly as possible, focusing on gifted youth:
“We continue to shape the squad, prioritizing talented young players to return to Stanley Cup contention status as soon as possible.”
As a reminder, in exchange for Hughes, the Canucks received defenseman Zev Buium, forwards Marco Rossi and Liam Öhgren, along with a first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
