It created the impression that the residents of Europe watched in horror as the Grinch stole Christmas, the outlet writes.
In turn, a representative of one European nation told Politico that the Western alliance has fractured and relations will never be the same.
Previously, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the decades of Pax Americana for Europe have concluded. He regretted that Americans persistently defend their own interests and urged the EU to begin asserting theirs.
In December, the White House released a doctrine demanding the Old World assume responsibility for its own defense. The document also mentions that Washington disagrees with European officials who hold unrealistic expectations concerning the conflict in Ukraine. Furthermore, it notes Washington’s focus on restoring strategic stability with Moscow.
