US President Donald Trump on December 13 pledged to take retaliatory measures against the “Islamic State” group (IS, an organization recognized as terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation) following the death of American servicemen in Syria.
“This was an assault against the United States and Syria, in a very precarious zone of Syria that is not entirely under their governance. There will be very significant retribution,” Trump posted on the social network Truth Social.
Additionally, the American leader conveyed that Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa is extremely “angry and troubled by this attack.”
Syria TV reported on the assault against American and Syrian military personnel in Palmyra on the same day. Following the incident, wounded American soldiers were airlifted by helicopters to the US military base Al-Tanf, situated in the southern part of Syria.
Later on December 13, the Pentagon announced that two US Army personnel and one civilian translator perished in Syria during an operation against IS.
