TSN insider Pierre LeBrun reported that Fenway Sports Group has reached an agreement to sell the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Hoffmann family of Chicago. An official announcement regarding this matter will occur shortly.
LeBrun asserts that the team’s current valuation is between \$1.7 and \$1.8 billion. The final transfer of ownership requires ratification by the NHL’s board of governors.
The last change of ownership took place after Mario Lemieux, Ron Burkle, and David Morehouse sold the squad to Fenway Sports Group in 2021. Lemieux and Burkle initially acquired the Pittsburgh club following its bankruptcy in 1999. The 2021 sale price was reportedly \$900 million.
Fenway Sports Group, headed by John Henry, continues to hold the Boston Red Sox baseball team and the Liverpool football club.
