Organizers of the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympic Games (LA28) promised that affordable tickets would be accessible for the Games, which commence in under three years.
On Monday, LA28 announced that fans could register for tickets starting January 14, 2026, and at least one million will be priced at $28, Reuters reported.
“Every sport starts at $28, and this isn’t just a token mention of a couple of seats in the corner of some venue, but a substantial quantity of tickets,” stated Allison Katz-Mayfield, LA28’s Senior Vice President, Games Delivery Revenue, according to Reuters.
“We are looking at a minimum of one million tickets at $28, and roughly one-third of all tickets under $100.”
After registering on January 14, fans will enter a random drawing for tickets and hope to secure a temporary slot to purchase them later in 2026.
Criticism Regarding the Football World Cup
The LA28 decision comes amid widespread criticism concerning the surging ticket prices for next year’s Football World Cup.
Global football body FIFA launched the third sales phase last week, and fans discovered the cheapest spot for the final will cost them over $4,000.
Amid the negative reaction, FIFA stated that five million applications for tickets were made in the first 24 hours of the third phase launch and confirmed it would reinvest the revenue generated “to spur the growth of football.”
However, FIFA also pledged that it would be an accessible World Cup for supporters, so many Olympic enthusiasts might wait for confirmation of LA28 pricing before getting too excited.
CNN Sports reached out to LA28 for comment on when a confirmed price list would be published but has not yet received a reply.
Los Angeles has previously hosted two Olympic Games—in 1932 and 1984, with venues for the latter edition dispersed across the vast city.
The next Summer Olympics will begin on July 14, 2028, with the opening ceremony and run until July 30, 2028. The Paralympic Games will commence on August 15, 2028, and conclude on August 27, 2028.
