An increasing number of e-commerce firms and financial institutions are utilizing AI when delivering services to consumers. Today, Visa announced the successful completion of hundreds of transactions by AI agents within a pilot program launched after the presentation of a tool for purchase automation in April.
Visa, like its competitors in the fintech industry, strives to create instruments enabling consumers to delegate specific transactions to artificial intelligence agents. AI is transforming the online commerce experience for shoppers, altering how purchases are made and goods are sought.
The company stated it intends to initiate pilot programs in Asia and Europe next year and is collaborating with over 20 partners on developing tools for AI agents. “This year will mark a year of massive AI proliferation, and consumers will start feeling comfortable across various environments created by agents,” expressed confidence Rubail Birwadker, Visa’s head of product development and partnerships.
Visa is not the first among financial, trade, and credit firms to deploy AI agents. In April, Mastercard reported testing the Agent Pay feature, which allows AI agents to make online purchases on behalf of clients. In the same month, Amazon began testing the “Buy for Me” service, and PayPal and Perplexity joined forces to create tools for AI shopping.
According to Visa data, almost half of American shoppers will be using AI to some extent when making purchases by December 2025.
