In November 2025, ChatGPT captured approximately 66–67% of all artificial intelligence chatbot traffic in the US. OpenAI’s platform, which owns the AI service, keeps leading due to economy of scale, brand recognition, and established user routines that make switching tools costly for the audience, notes PPC citing data from Similarweb.
Google Gemini firmly held the second spot and shows one of the fastest growth rates in the sector. Through deep integration into the Google ecosystem—from search and Chrome to Workspace and advertising tools—Gemini is gradually evolving from a standalone chatbot into a universal interface for accessing the company’s services. This strengthens its standing among both general users and businesses.
Microsoft Copilot, integrated with Office and Windows, occupies the third position in the rankings. The ecosystem approach and the AI assistant’s embedment into users’ daily work scenarios are becoming a crucial factor in the competitive struggle.
ChatGPT commands two-thirds of the chatbot market
The chatbot market is no longer a pure monopoly, but it remains asymmetrical. ChatGPT still commands about two-thirds of the traffic; however, the growth of Gemini and the emergence of new contenders suggest a gradual redistribution of user focus.
It was previously reported that ChatGPT became the top downloaded free iPhone application in the US according to Apple data. The chatbot secured the first rank among all non-game applications in the yearly download rankings, surpassing popular apps such as Google and TikTok.
