Consistent participation in sports can lower blood pressure with an efficacy comparable to pharmaceutical treatment.
Scientists examined clinical study data provided by the American Heart Association. A beneficial effect on pressure was noted even with moderate and brief exertions. A reduction in arterial pressure was observed within a day following exercise, and this outcome persisted on rest days.
According to the research, not only aerobic and strength training proved effective, but also practices like yoga, tai chi, balance exercises, and others. Specialists emphasized that regularity of sessions plays the key role, rather than their intensity. Physical activity yields the most pronounced result in individuals with excess body weight.
In the experts’ view, each lost kilogram of weight, on average, reduces arterial pressure by about 1 mm of mercury. Drug therapy, researchers believe, should be prescribed only in cases of urgent necessity.
