Experts from the National University of Defense Technology in Changsha announced a record achievement in electromagnetic propulsion. As reported by TASS, citing China Central Television, they managed to accelerate a multi-ton maglev platform wagon to a speed of 700 kilometers per hour in just two seconds.
The trials were conducted on a test section approximately 400 meters long. After reaching the record velocity, the platform was successfully halted, which confirmed the system’s functionality not just during acceleration, but also during controlled deceleration.
According to the broadcaster, the electromagnetic acceleration technology was developed within the National University of Defense Technology for about ten years. This involves an integrated system combining magnetic levitation and a powerful electromagnetic drive, enabling significant speed to be imparted to a heavy composition in a short period.
The announcement emphasizes that the significance of this development extends beyond basic science. It is noted that the demonstrated system could potentially be utilized in creating next-generation vacuum high-speed transport, where a rapid and managed acceleration is required for movement on the magnetic cushion.
Furthermore, the report from China Central Television mentions that this technology is viewed as a potential foundation for ground launches and testing of advanced aerospace equipment. They indicate that the attained result showcases China’s growing technical capability in crucial high-tech sectors related to transport and the space industry.
