
The USA squad lost to the Finland team in the quarterfinal match of the World Junior Hockey Championship (players not older than 20 years).
The contest took place in Saint Paul (Minnesota state) and concluded with a victory for the Finns in overtime with a score of 4:3 (0:0, 1:2, 2:1, 1:0). For the winners, the pucks in regulation time of the game were scored by Heikki Ruohonen (25th minute), Leo Tuuva (53), and Joona Saarelaianen (54). The author of the winning goal in overtime was Arttu Välimäki (63). The Americans distinguished themselves with Cole Hutson (21), Cole Eiserman (31), and Riker Lee (59).
The Finland squad became the third semifinalist of the current World Junior Championship draw. Previously, the Sweden and Czechia teams overcame the quarterfinal stage of the tournament. The hosts of the championship, the Americans, were eliminated from the draw and lost the opportunity to defend their champion title. The USA squad had won the gold medals of the World Junior Championship in 2024 and 2025.
