
Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen became the best based on prize money in chess for 2025, reports the portal Chess.com.
In total, Carlsen earned nearly 1.5 million dollars over the season. The largest payout—250 thousand—he received for winning the esports World Cup, which included chess in its program last year. In December, Carlsen also won the world championships in rapid and blitz.
A total of 26 chess players who earned over 100 thousand were included in the ranking. Among them are three Russians: Andrey Esipenko (18th place), Ian Nepomniachtchi (21st), and Vladislav Artemiev (26th).
Among women, the best result belongs to the Chinese player Ju Wenjun; she is in 11th place.
