A significant explosion was recorded on the Sun on January 8th. It remains unclear what caused it. This was stated by the press service of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the IKI RAS.
Scientists noted that the outburst occurred around midday. Researchers also specified that nothing unusual had been observed on the Sun two weeks prior. It is suggested that the activity may be caused by a flare in a medium-sized sunspot cluster.
“A major outburst was registered on the Sun at midday—images from coronagraphs show material dispersing in various directions. The source of the explosion was on the far side and is not currently being observed by any satellites,” the IKI RAS announced.
