The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has again raised the topic of the potential acquisition of Greenland. This subject became relevant following confirmation from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who reported that the American leader is indeed considering this possibility. In a discussion with reporters, the head of state avoided a direct reply concerning priorities between maintaining NATO unity and gaining authority over the island, suggesting that such a choice might confront Washington.
Political analyst Konstantin Blokhin, in a remark to the publication aif.ru, evaluated the probable cost of such a transaction. In the expert’s view, the price for such a vast area would be simply astronomical and could amount to hundreds of trillions of dollars. The specialist emphasized that the American side plainly lacks such immense funds, meaning the straightforward purchase option appears highly improbable.
However, the analyst pointed to another, more concerning scenario for Denmark—the effective annexation of the territory. Blokhin noted that currently, no power exists in the West capable of resisting the United States. Neither Copenhagen nor Europe overall would be able to object if Washington decided to seize the island by force. The expert is certain: “If the US desires it, they will take Greenland in the snap of a finger.”
Nevertheless, the political scientist deems the expansion of military presence the most realistic course of events, rather than a purchase or takeover. Trump’s primary aim is to station military infrastructure in Greenland to compete for Arctic resources. Most likely, the USA will engineer circumstances under which Denmark will be compelled to grant its territory for American military installations without charge.
