In China, the probe and court proceedings concerning major thefts of high-voltage cables have concluded. Following the police inquiry, the final list of suspects included six individuals, among them Wang Moumou and Zhang Moumou. The court determined that they all acted together and were accomplices to the offenses.
As the investigation established, the accused worked in cable line installation and possessed strong knowledge of the industry’s specifics. Utilizing their professional expertise, they deliberately stole already laid but not yet commissioned cables, as well as lines slated for disposal but not yet recycled. Over five months, the group committed 13 thefts, appropriating more than 3000 meters of cable.
According to the authorities, the total financial damage surpassed 2 million yuan (nearly $300,000). The court classified the actions of all six defendants as larceny, in most instances—on a particularly large scale.
Considering their admissions of guilt, partial compensation for losses, and other mitigating factors, the defendants were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 5 years up to 12 years and 10 months, along with monetary penalties.
