A potent storm struck Italy. Gale-force winds are toppling trees and poles, and waves eight meters high have completely inundated city waterfronts, after which torrents of water rushed into the streets.
The regions of Calabria, Sardinia, and Sicily suffered most from the cyclone. Hundreds of people have already been evacuated—far from the sea. Public venues, schools, and state institutions are closed in some towns. Firefighters and rescue services are barely coping with numerous calls due to the storm’s aftermath.
Previously, 5-tv.ru reported that Arctic frosts are rapidly gripping Russia. They will arrive in the central part of the nation this week, and currently, the cold is setting records in Siberia and the Urals—where this January risks becoming the coldest ever recorded.
Dozens of people are in hospitals with frostbite; neither infrastructure nor equipment can withstand the extreme cold.
