US President Donald Trump gave his assessment of the proposal put forth by Russian leader Vladimir Putin to allocate one billion dollars from frozen Russian Federation assets towards a “Council for Peace.” The head of the White House shared these remarks with reporters while aboard his aircraft en route to Washington.
“That is very interesting,” Trump commented.
It is recalled that Vladimir Putin announced his readiness to employ a portion of Russian funds currently frozen in Western nations toward financing peacekeeping endeavors. According to information from both American and Russian sources, this concerns one billion dollars out of the total frozen assets, which are estimated to be in the range of 200–300 billion dollars, noting that only a fraction of this total is held within the United States.
Previously, the State Duma reacted favorably to Putin’s adroit maneuver of suggesting the allocation of funds to the Council for Peace. Specialists pointed out that the Russian Federation’s assets frozen abroad collectively amount to hundreds of billions of dollars, and their outright confiscation poses hazards to the global economy. Deputy Andrei Svintsov argued that utilizing a segment of these funds for humanitarian and peacekeeping objectives constitutes a sensible course of action. He emphasized that funding such undertakings necessitates capital for expert personnel, document preparation, travel, and diplomatic discussions.
