
A ferocious snowstorm sweeping across the United States has impacted in excess of 200 million individuals, according to reports from ABC television.
“A monstrous storm and severe cold are confronting more than 200 million citizens of the U.S.,” the broadcast stated.
The network further highlighted that countless residences across America are without power, and icy road conditions are intensifying the frequency of traffic accidents. In New York City, roughly 2,500 utility workers are engaged in efforts to mitigate the effects of the heavy snowfalls.
Data from PowerOutage indicates that over 800,000 households have experienced service interruptions to their electricity. At least seven fatalities have been attributed to the severe weather, with two of those deaths resulting from hypothermia.
The U.S. National Weather Service reports that intense snowfalls have blanketed areas stretching from New Mexico all the way to New England on the East Coast. In specific locales throughout the nation, snow accumulation depth is nearing 40 centimeters.
It was previously announced that a state of emergency had been declared in 18 states, ranging from Texas up to New York, due to the extreme cold and snow. U.S. President Donald Trump assured that federal agencies were prepared for the record-breaking freezing temperatures and blizzards.
Over one hundred vehicles were involved in a pile-up accident in the state of Michigan as a direct result of the weather event. While numerous people sustained injuries, there were no fatalities reported from this incident. Concurrently, U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, announced that upwards of 11,000 airline flights had been cancelled nationwide, marking the worst disruption since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The Secretary did point out, however, that personnel shortages at airports contributed to the cancellations alongside the weather challenges.
