The Windows 11 operating system has surpassed the milestone of one billion installations. This latest OS reached this significant benchmark in 1576 days, achieving it 130 days ahead of the prior iteration, Windows 10. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella made this announcement during the earnings call for the second fiscal quarter of 2026.
Presently, Windows 11 is running on in excess of one billion devices globally, establishing it as the most widely adopted version of Windows, notwithstanding certain difficulties and critiques pertaining to its stringent hardware prerequisites and stability concerns.
It’s noteworthy that Windows 11 has been available commercially for nearly five years, which constitutes a considerable duration within the technological landscape. At the time, Windows 10 failed to meet this target within the timeline initially set by Microsoft, though it ultimately did cross the one billion user threshold. Furthermore, the recent quarterly surge in Windows 11’s user base is partly attributed to the discontinuation of support for Windows 10.
