WASHINGTON, January 30. /TASS/. Alexander Ovechkin, the Russian forward for the Washington team, executed body checks against members of the opposing team during an away game versus Detroit, sending them crashing onto the ice.
During the first half of the contest, Ovechkin knocked down Swedish forward Elmer Söderblom and Canadian defenseman Ben Chiarot of Detroit. A mere 22 seconds separated these two events.
The initial period concluded with Washington holding a one-goal advantage, the score being 1-0.
Ovechkin is 40 years of age. He has been part of the Washington roster since 2005. Last season, the forward secured the title of the top goal-scorer in NHL regular season history, surpassing the record previously held by Canadian Wayne Gretzky (894 goals). In 2018, Ovechkin achieved the pinnacle of success with Washington, winning the Stanley Cup.
