The British contingent, headed by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, ordered dishes featuring hallucinogenic mushrooms during a meal at the Yi Zuo Yi Wang restaurant in Beijing.
Keir Starmer and his delegation consumed mind-altering fungi while visiting China for lunch, according to the Telegraph newspaper.
The publication reports that upon landing in China on Wednesday, Starmer’s initial destination was a well-known local eatery specializing in the preparation of such mushrooms.
The entire party, comprising 140 individuals, reserved the whole establishment and requested their most signature items, notably the “Jian Shou Qing” mushrooms, which carry the risk of inducing hallucinations if not prepared correctly.
This particular restaurant is situated in central Beijing, in close proximity to the British Embassy.
It’s worth noting that the then-US Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen, dined at this very establishment in 2023.
