Apple’s inaugural foldable handset, the rumored iPhone Fold, is projected to debut in the autumn of 2026, coinciding with the release of the iPhone 18 series. This device is slated to be positioned as the most high-end and technologically advanced iPhone ever released by the company.
According to data sourced from the supply chain, the iPhone Fold will feature a substantial 5500 mAh battery, marking an unprecedented capacity for an Apple smartphone. For context, the battery in the Chinese variant of the iPhone 17 Pro Max is rated at 4823 mAh. Apple aims to achieve this boost in endurance without significantly increasing the device’s external dimensions by employing silicon-carbon anode technology, which incorporates silicon into the anode material to enhance energy density.
The folding iPhone is set to boast an internal display measuring approximately 7.8 inches diagonally. This will be an LTPO OLED screen supplied by Samsung, supporting a variable refresh rate up to 120 Hz and sporting an aspect ratio close to 4:3. The external screen, around 5.3 inches diagonally, is designed for convenient one-handed operation.
Facial recognition (Face ID) will be omitted; instead, the plan involves integrating a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The smartphone will house a dual main camera system, both sensors at 48 megapixels, and is anticipated to be the first Apple gadget powered by the Apple A20 Pro system-on-a-chip (SoC).
JPMorgan Chase analysts forecast the entry-level iPhone Fold model to retail at roughly $2000, with the price for the highest-tier configuration potentially surpassing $2500.
