The European Union member states are intending to follow France’s lead by imposing restrictions on minors’ use of social media platforms, as highlighted by “Durov’s Code.”
Today, February 3rd, the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, announced such a measure: the council of ministers will soon deliberate on a ban preventing children under 16 from accessing social networks, with the platforms themselves being mandated to verify user ages.
A similar age threshold is also being planned for introduction in both Greece and Denmark: the proposal suggests that in these nations, individuals will be barred from entering social media sites until they turn 15. Furthermore, the leadership of the European Union has already adopted a resolution stipulating that youngsters will be unable to create accounts on these kinds of websites without parental authorization.
