Mass production of the Tesla Semi electric heavy-duty truck is slated to commence in 2026. This information was shared by the company’s CEO, Elon Musk, on the X social media platform.
“The Tesla Semi will enter large-scale manufacturing this year,” Musk stated.
Tesla initially unveiled its electric truck, the Semi, back in 2017, with initial production kicking off in 2022. Pepsi placed an order for the first batch of 100 trucks. Musk also presented an autonomous version of the Semi in 2018.
This vehicle utilizes three electric motors. According to Tesla’s official website, the truck boasts an energy consumption rate of 1.7 kWh per mile (1.6 km) and is capable of traveling up to 500 miles (804 km) on a single charge.
In April 2025, Reuters reported that Tesla had halted the procurement of components for the Semi and the driverless Cybercab taxi from China. This decision was reportedly a reaction to tariffs imposed on Chinese goods by U.S. President Donald Trump. The news agency suggested this halt in sourcing could potentially delay the start of mass production for these specific models.
