The organizing committee for the Winter Olympics in Italy is currently investigating the cause behind the reported damage to the medals, stated Andrea Franchini, the Games’ Chief Operating Officer.
Previously, a number of athletes competing in the Italian Olympics voiced concerns regarding the apparent fragility of the Olympic awards.
“We are fully aware of this situation and are actively seeking to determine the root cause. Everything must be perfect when a medal is presented; for an athlete, that is the most memorable of moments,” Franchini commented during the daily briefing held by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The Olympic Games are taking place in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo from February 6th through the 22nd.
