Emanuele Rieder and Simon Kainzwaldner, representing Italy in luge doubles, secured the gold medal at the Winter Olympic Games held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
The victorious pair clocked a combined time across two runs of precisely 1 minute and 45.086 seconds. Trailing them by a narrow margin of 0.068 seconds, Thomas Steu and Wolfgang Kindl from Austria took the silver position, while the German duo of Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt claimed the bronze, finishing 0.090 seconds behind the leaders.
For Rieder and Kainzwaldner, this event marked the first time in their competitive careers that they had earned Olympic medals.
