
Dutch speed skater Femke Kok secured the gold medal in the 500-meter event at the Olympic Games held in Italy.
Kok crossed the finish line with a time of 36.49 seconds, setting a new Olympic record in the process. Her compatriot, Jutta Leerdam, claimed the silver medal, finishing 0.66 seconds behind. The bronze medal went to Japan’s Miho Takagi, trailing by 0.78 seconds.
Kok is 25 years old. This victory marks her first-ever Olympic triumph. Previously in Italy, Kok also managed to secure second place in the 1000-meter race.
