He explained that this simple technique aids in lowering the body’s core temperature to levels that are optimal for drifting off to sleep.
The expert shared this domestic “life hack” during an interview with the publication 20minutos. The doctor clarified that a crucial prerequisite for sound sleep is the natural decrease in internal body heat. Donning socks before bed facilitates the dilation of blood vessels in the feet. This action promotes heat loss, enabling the body to reach a comfortable sleeping temperature more rapidly.
Callejo emphasizes the importance of choosing the right socks. Overly tight styles impede circulation, while synthetic materials can increase perspiration, leading to discomfort. The most suitable options are loose-fitting socks made from natural fibers that allow the skin to “breathe.”
The expert also brought up the established criteria for insomnia: sleep disturbances occurring at least three times a week over a period of a month or longer. Another significant indicator is the negative impact on daytime well-being resulting from the lack of sleep, manifesting as feelings of tiredness, sluggishness, and reduced capacity for both work and learning.
