Spotify has partnered with Liquid Death for what might be one of its most peculiar hardware experiments yet: a Bluetooth speaker styled to look like an urn.
This item has been dubbed the “Eternal Playlist Urn.” Visually, it resembles an object typically displayed on a mantelpiece, with one key difference—it’s not meant for holding ashes. Instead, it functions as a collectible speaker featuring an integrated Bluetooth system concealed within its lid.
Spotify has announced that only 150 units of this device will be available for purchase in the US, each priced at $495.
According to Spotify, this is the “world’s first urn speaker capable of streaming music.” In a blog post detailing the collaboration, Spotify noted, “Life needs music. So does the afterlife.”
Users are able to curate what Spotify terms an “Eternal Playlist.” Participants answer prompts such as, “What is your eternal mood?” or “What is your favorite ghostly sound?” Based on these responses—combined with an individual’s listening history—Spotify generates a personalized playlist that can sync directly with the speaker.
