On February 25th, a 39-year-old tourist in Switzerland tragically lost his life after falling from a cliff while trying to retrieve a phone that had slipped from his grasp. This fatal attempt to recover his dropped mobile device occurred near the “Century Tower.”
According to a report by Bild, a tourist lost possession of his phone during a hike in Switzerland, leading to a perilous effort to get it back, which ultimately resulted in a fatal fall from the rock face.
On February 25th, the 39-year-old vacationer was trekking alongside three companions across the bridge near the Bastei cliffs. As they were in the vicinity of the “Century Tower,” his Xiaomi Redmi mobile device, valued at about 150 euros (equivalent to 13.6 thousand rubles), slipped from his hands and tumbled down the slope.
In an effort to secure his telephone, the tourist bypassed the safety barrier and began descending, but he lost his footing and plunged 15 meters, eventually lodging on a ledge named “Mardertelle.” His fellow hikers immediately alerted emergency services. Rescue teams managed to reach the man, who, despite sustaining severe injuries, was still conscious. He was airlifted to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries later.
There was a prior, separate incident reported where a 12-year-old boy survived an initial fall down a mountain with his father, only to later perish from hypothermia on the Bidien nam Bidian peak in Scotland’s Munro mountains.
