Devices from Apple have been given NATO authorization to safeguard classified materials. Following successful security vetting in Germany, both iPhones and iPads are now certified, enabling data protection without the need for extra software installation.
The smartphones manufactured by Apple have received NATO clearance for storing confidential information. This confirmation was documented in a recent announcement released via the official platform of the company responsible for the iPhone.
The mobile hardware produced in the US, encompassing the iPhone and iPad, successfully navigated the endorsement procedure under NATO guidelines after an appraisal conducted by Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security. Apple confirmed that this clearance permits the housing of sensitive information on these devices without implementing supplementary software (SW).
“Prior to the introduction of the iPhone, devices designed for high security were exclusively obtainable by select government agencies and large corporations,” stated Ivan Krstić, a company Vice President. He highlighted that “Apple’s most robust security technologies” are now accessible globally without restrictions.
Apple representatives emphasized that the software, validated against rigorous security criteria, is incorporated within the newer iOS 26 build. Highlighting the significance of this development, reporters from the publication Engadget commented:
“This endorsement seems to substantiate various claims Apple has made recently regarding security.”
Security specialists had previously uncovered malware targeting Apple smartphones that possessed the capability to operate covertly while disabling anti-tracking features on the iPhone.
