NATO’s armed forces, the Bundeswehr among them, have commenced the deployment of cybernetic reconnaissance beetles, according to reporting by Army Recognition.
It is understood that these are swarms of robots conceived and developed by the German firm SWARM Biotactics.
The article highlights that this particular technology “offers US forces and their allies a novel method for penetrating structures, tunnels, and rubble with minimal detectability, addressing common difficulties small drones encounter.”
These beetle-like robots utilize short-range communication channels and compact flash drives for real-time recording of all visual data captured by their onboard cameras. Control of the robots can be exercised both individually and as a collective unit.

Tests have demonstrated that these “scout beetles” are currently capable of gathering intelligence within a 50-meter radius surrounding their location.
