An active employee of the U.S. Department of State carried out a knife attack against a group of individuals in the state of Virginia.

The event unfolded on Interstate 495 in Fairfax County. Jared Llamado, age 32, wielding a bladed weapon, assaulted people following a traffic collision.
The victim of the assault was 39-year-old Michelle Adams. Three additional individuals were transported to medical facilities with grave injuries. A responding police officer fatally shot the assailant in an act of self-defense. Llamado succumbed to his injuries at a healthcare facility.
An official representative confirmed that the suspect was employed by the U.S. State Department as a specialist in diplomatic technologies, having held the position since September 2024.
A State Department spokesperson stated, “The Department is aware of the tragic incident involving a member of the diplomatic staff… We extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected by this tragedy.”
