The United States Southern Command announced via the Pentagon’s official X account that a joint military operation between US and Ecuadorian forces has commenced, targeting designated terrorist organizations.
This maneuver is viewed by the Command as an expression of solidarity and demonstrating the readiness of Latin American partners to collaborate on tackling drug trafficking and international terrorism.
It is pertinent to recall that in the preceding year, US authorities intensified the deployment of military assets within this region, with a primary focus on interdicting vessels suspected of transporting narcotics. Such escalations are necessitated by the imperative to counter organized crime and the illicit trade of controlled substances.
Previously, in Mexico, this type of partnership led to the neutralization of a local cartel leader: the nation’s security services independently conceived and executed the operation, with the US authorities solely providing supplementary intelligence.
