The International Skating Union (ISU) is currently exploring the integration of artificial intelligence into the judging process for figure skating.
This information was shared with RIA Novosti by international referee Jeroen Prins.
“The ISU plans to rigorously test this technology throughout the upcoming season. It will serve solely as an assistive tool for the technical panel. The AI will propose its own assessment for elements, and the technical panel will retain the authority to either concur with the AI’s suggestion or determine its own rating,” Prins stated.
It is worth recalling that figure skating scoring involves both a technical panel and a judging panel. Technical specialists are responsible for determining the number of revolutions in jumps and spins, as well as assigning levels to non-jump elements.
Judges, meanwhile, allocate scores for program components and the quality of execution for each element.
