
A four-meter-long oarfish, a rare deep-sea dweller popularly believed to herald disasters, was discovered on the coast in Vietnam’s Lam Dong province, according to a report from Vietnam.vn.
This massive, silver-colored fish sporting a red dorsal fin washed ashore on March 22nd in the coastal area of Dinh Thao Him. The sighting drew a significant crowd of locals and visitors.
Oarfish typically reside in the deep ocean, making their appearance near the shore an exceptional event. This species boasts a serpent-like physique, with documented lengths reaching up to 11 meters, and unverified reports suggesting up to 15 meters. They spend the vast majority of their existence dwelling below depths of 900 meters.
