Microsoft has secured a lease for 900 MW of power capacity at a new data center in Texas. The site, located in the city of Abilene, was previously slated for use by both Oracle and OpenAI, but those companies ultimately backed out of the endeavor.
The first building within the center, being developed by Crusoe, is projected to be finished by mid-2027. This location is situated adjacent to the Stargate campus, which represents a significant undertaking in expanding infrastructure tailored for artificial intelligence services, notably including ChatGPT.
Previously, Elon Musk unveiled intentions to establish a Terafab factory in Austin. This initiative will be a joint venture between Tesla and SpaceX. The facility will house machinery for the fabrication and validation of all categories of microchips. Operations will commence with a smaller-scale plant, featuring the potential for subsequent scaling.
