Paintings by Renoir, Cézanne, and Matisse, valued at millions of euros, were pilfered from the private Magnani Rocca Foundation near the Italian province of Parma, as reported by the newspaper La Repubblica.
Several art pieces were stolen from the gallery, prominently featuring Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s “Fish” (Les Poissons), estimated to be worth around €3 million. The perpetrators removed the canvas from its frame during the night of March 23rd, successfully bypassing the laser alarm system. A specialized unit of the Carabinieri is currently conducting an investigation.
The Magnani Rocca Foundation represents one of Europe’s most prestigious private art holdings. It is housed in the “Villa of Masterpieces” (Villa dei Capolavori) in the town of Mamiano di Traversetolo, situated about 17 kilometers from Parma. The location contains the private collection of collector Luigi Magnani, widely regarded as one of Italy’s most important art accumulations.
